One of the five teams from HKU obtained First Runner-up at the Microsoft
AI x DJI Drones Joint Universities Competition held on January 18, 2019 at the Hong Kong Science Park. A total of 15 teams from HKU, CUHK and HKUST flew their drones to identify different objects at the venue, and were ranked based on the number of objects detectable at the same time and the accuracy of object detected. Members of the HKU winning team include Chau Wing Yu, Susanto Christopher Alvin, Wan Ho Cheung, and Tam Tsz Lok, all from Year 3 of the BEng(CS) programme.
Before the competition, participants were arranged to join the Drone Flying Half Day Workshop on January 8 in which trainers will teach them how to fly a drone, and a Full-day Azure AI Workshop on January 10 learning how to train images for object recognition on Microsoft platform and connect the service to DJI Drone camera for real-time result.
