The Law and Technology Centre (LTC) is delighted to announce the receipt of a generous HK$3.2 million grant from the WYNG Foundation to support its groundbreaking AI-CLIC 2.0 project. This funding will enable LTC, a collaborative research centre co-established by the Faculty of Law and the School of Computing and Data Science, to advance its mission of providing public services in the interdisciplinary area of information technology and law.
One of LTC’s notable projects is the Community Legal Information Centre (CLIC), an online platform dedicated to promoting justice in Hong Kong through free access to legal information. Launched in 2005, CLIC has evolved into a comprehensive legal resource with approximately 2,200 CLIC-pages tailored for laypersons.
To enhance the accessibility and practicality of legal information on CLIC, LTC developed the CLIC Recommender (CRec) as part of the AI-CLIC 1.0 project. This AI tool is designed to help users formulate legal queries based on the scenarios they describe, marking a significant milestone in advancing access to legal information and public legal assistance.
Building upon the success of AI-CLIC 1.0, LTC is now embarking on the AI-CLIC 2.0 project. This new phase aims to enrich the CLIC platform with additional content, with a particular focus on empowering underserved communities, including young people and marginalised groups, by enhancing their access to legal guidance.
Leveraging advancements in AI technology, LTC plans to expand CRec’s capabilities into a conversational legal assistant. This upgraded AI tool will guide users through diagnostic questions to clarify their legal concerns, explain complex legal concepts, and provide actionable referrals to social service organisations based on users’ potential needs.
This initiative represents a significant step toward bridging the gap between legal knowledge and actionable solutions, ensuring that justice is accessible to all.
The Law and Technology Centre extends its heartfelt gratitude to the WYNG Foundation for their invaluable support in making this vision a reality. For more information and updates, please visit the Law and Technology Centre's website.
