CryptoTrace, an advanced cryptocurrency investigation platform jointly developed by HKU and the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) of Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), was awarded Gold Medal at the 4th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions Hong Kong (AEII).
The HKU research team was led by Professor Siu-Ming YIU, Associate Director (TPg) of CDS and Professor of the Department of Computer Science. Leveraging cutting-edge blockchain analytics, graph and visualisation technologies, CryptoTrace enables cybercrime investigators to effectively trace crime proceeds that were laundered via various cryptocurrency platforms. This innovative investigation platform also helps the investigators to track down important information about the locations of the suspects, collects crucial investigation hints and streamlines probes into scams involving digital currencies. The HKU research team will continue to work with HKPF to tackle emerging high-tech crimes to make Hong Kong a stable and safe place.
The 4th AEII, held between 5 and 6 December 2024, was organised in partnership with Palexpo, Geneva, the organiser of the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva.
