Prof. Reynold Cheng, Associate Director of HKU IDS & Professor of Computer Science, has been recently appointed as one of the Principal Investigators of the Jockey Club SMART Family-Link Project (over 329 million HKD, in 2018 – 2025), which is a 7-year project aiming to promote family well-being leveraging Information and Communications Technology, as well as big data.
As Prof. Cheng has stated, his team at STAR lab believes in deriving novel techniques in driving “Data Science for Social Good”. Riding on the fruitful results of the Phase 1 of the Project, Prof. Cheng and his team will further enhance functionalities of the data-driven service management system, which Prof. Cheng’s team has developed for the 26 family centres operated by local NGOs (40% of family services in HKSAR), in benefitting future family service planning across the territory. This second phase of the Project the team will develop a Data Analysis System, which allows NGOs to use state-of-the-arts Big Social Data and AI to make data-informed decisions.
The developed solutions are expected to have a great impact for improving the lives of families and communities in Hong Kong. More details can be viewed at https://star.hku.hk/jcsfl.html.
