A warm welcome to Professor Yi MA for joining HKU as the Director of the HKU Musketeers Foundation Institute of Data Science (IDS) from January 12, 2023 to December 31, 2027. He will play an important role in fostering research and collaboration in data science.
Professor Ma is Chair Professor in the IDS and the Department of Computer Science. His research interests include 3D computer vision, low-dim models for high-dim data, scalable optimization and machine learning, and intelligent machines. Professor Ma joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley in 2018 and was founding professor and the executive dean of the School of Information Science and Technology of ShanghaiTech University from 2014 to 2017.
