An Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony between HKU and Tencent Finance Academy (HK) on a range of exciting FinTech collaborations was held at Loke Yew Hall on March 6, 2019 (Wed).
The ceremony was officiated by the Honorable Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of HKSAR Government and the Honorable James Henry Lau, Secretary for Financial Services and Treasury of HKSAR Government, with Professor Paul Tam (Provost and Vice-Chancellor of HKU), Professor Ian Holliday (Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning)), Mr Jim Lai (VIce President of Tencent, President of Tencent Financial Technology and Dean of Tencent Finance Academy), Mr Ma Yong Su (Dean of Tencent Academy and Principal of Tencent University), and Ms Maryrose Ai (General Manager of Corporate Development of Tencent) witnessed the signing by Professor Christopher Chao (Dean of Engineering, HKU) and Mr. James Li (Senior Director of HK, Macau & Cross-border Financial Affairs of Tencent).
The signing ceremony was followed by the Tencent Finance Academy (HK) 2019 Kick-off Ceremony and a high table dinner. A FinTech Experts Sharing Session on Cybersecurity in FinTech was conducted by Dr S.M. Yiu (Associate Professor of Department of Computer Science, HKU) and Mr. Gerrey Zhou (Director of Risk Management Department, Tencent). Two of them were joined by Mr Tim Leung (Senior Director of HK, Macau and Cross-border Fintech Products, Tencent Financial Technology) for a Fireside Chat on the same topic. Around 200 guests including government officials, friends from the industry, and students from local universities and secondary schools joined the event.
A press interview attended by Professor Christopher Chao (Dean of Engineering, HKU), Mr. James Li (Senior Director of HK, Macau & Cross-border Financial Affairs of Tencent), ProfessorT.W. Lam (Head of Department), Dr S.M. Yiu (Associate Professor) and Dr K.P. Chow (Associate Professor and Programme Director of BASc(FinTech)) from the Department of Computer Science of HKU was also held before the ceremony.
