A PhD candidate of the Department of Computer Science, Andy Kong and two taught postgraduate students from the EEE Department, Chen Wei and Jiang Yanqing, won the first prize in the "Innovation - Information Technology" category of the 6th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition which was organized by the HK New Generation Cultural Association, co-organized by the HK Science and Technology Parks Corporations, and funded by the Innovation and Technology Commission.
The team developed a project named "AI-Handwashing" which uses machine learning to provide a real-time feedback of the hand cleanliness during and after washing hands. There is also an option to store the cleanliness index and RFID data with timestamp in the database for future analysis.
Moreover, Li Yang, a BEng(CompSc) Year 4 student and his team-mates won the Second Prize with their project titled "ReBot - Rehabilitation Robot" under the "Entrepreneurship - Entrepreneurship Proposal" Category; and Zhong Hua, a PhD candidate of Computer Science and his team-mates from Hydrosoft Limited got the Third Prize under the "Entrepreneurship - Startup" category.
