HKU team enters the World Finals of the ACM International Collegiate
Programming Contest 2009

 

We are pleased to announce that the HKU "Far" team has advanced to the World Finals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest 2009. This is one of the most prestigious competitions
in the world, where 7,109 teams from 1,838 universities in 88 countries on six continents compete at
259 sites. Only one hundred finalist teams advance to the World Finals.

The "Far" team, coached by Dr. Reynold Cheng of the Department of Computer Science, HKU is composed of three contestants (Mr. Ng Kwong Hei, Mr. Hui Yan Ting, and Mr. Yip Lik Yau) and one reserve member (Mr. Yung Tsz Ho). Earlier in the Jakarta regional contest in October 2008, the same team won the Gold Award, solved 7 problems out of 10, and was ranked 4th among 49 strong teams. The two other HKU teams were also ranked among the top ten. HKU was the 2nd runner-up university in this prestigious competition.

On April 18-22 in Stockholm, the Far team will compete with 99 other teams, which represent the best of the great universities on six continents. Good luck, Far!
